rahi
rahi
origins of the rahi
Overall name applied to all animals, fish, birds, insects, and reptiles by the Matoran. Commissioned by Mata Nui, the purpose of the Rahi was to populate the universe hereafter and aid the Matoran in their role for operating the universe. Structurally underneath and obtained in his robot vessel. Rahi was literally translated as "not us" in the Matoran language. However it is more commonly translated as "wildlife." The Rahi were intended to aide or protect the Matoran during their daily routine of their labour. As well as their impartial aide in keeping Mata Nui alive. Regardless of their size, shape, nor design or form; as a species of mindless beasts and living creatures.

The Rahi were the diverse, wide-spread fauna of the Matoran Universe, and biomechanical creatures composed of organic and inorganic Protodermis.
Rahi were generally considered to be possessed of a lower intellectual level than that of the Sapient Species, acting primarily on instinct and out of a desire for basic biological needs such as shelter and sustenance.

They are known to have contained very little inner Light; enough to be drained, but not enough to have any notable effect on their judgement.

The majority of the Matoran Universe's Rahi were created by the Brotherhood of Makuta, whose technique involved blending various combinations of viruses in large vats of liquid Protodermis. Later, as the Brotherhood of Makuta became corrupt, they began to design and create more violent Rahi for the organisation's own use. A small number of Rahi in the Matoran Universe predated the Makuta, having been created by the Great Beings or other, earlier factions, such as the Hand of Artakha.

A few other species of Rahi were the result of Energised Protodermis or other factors acting on preexisting Rahi, sapient beings, or the environment.

Most Rahi migrated to the newly-reformed planet of Spherus Magna after the operating systems of the Matoran Universe were destroyed during the Battle of Bara Magna.
rahi and off-world creatures
created by the great beings
"The First Rahi" - Sea Beasts of tremendous size.

These creatures were created by the Great Beings 100,000 years ago. For a long time these creatures disappeared, until they wound up near the coast of Onu-Metru at some point long before the first appearances of the Morbuzahk. They were herded into the Archives so they could be studied by three Matoran, Whenua; Onepu; and Mavrah, by order of Turaga Dume.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned, because a giant serpent attempted to escape, destroying much of the Archives in the progress. Because of this incident, Dume ordered that the Rahi be removed from the city as soon as order was restored in the Archives (much to Mavrah's disappointment). That night Mavrah returned and somehow managed to herd the Rahi out and lead them to a river system in the Great Barrier (where he ran into the Kralhi).

One thousand years ago, after Teridax damaged Metru Nui and imprisoned the Matoran, the Toa Metru began their journey to find a new home. This journey brought them through the Great Barrier where they encountered the Rahi. At one point Mavrah ordered his "friends" to attack the Toa, which they did and when fifteen Vahki got involved things really got worse. Eventually, the battle got out of hand and the Rahi started to attack each other. In an attempt to stop the fighting, Mavrah was swept out into the water, where he was presumed dead.

The status of these Rahi is unknown, but most are most likely dead or wounded.
Zyglak

The Zyglak were a reptilian non-Rahi race accidentally created by the Great Beings out of resulting remnants of other remains that brought fourth the first ever Matoran species into being; whilst exposed by energised protodermis. The Great Beings were seeking to create intelligent organisms known as the Krana, but found that some of the material they used turned into Zyglak instead. Shunned by their creators and hated and feared throughout the universe, the bitter, savage Zyglak retreated to the dark places (such as the ruins of the inner Pit, and the underground recesses of Voya Nui). There they wait, brooding over their fate and hating the Matoran and all who honour Mata Nui. Those who encounter them rarely survive to tell others the tale. They were also responsible for the massacre of almost all members of the Toa Cordak, leaving Lesovikk, the Toa of Air, its sole survivor.

The Zyglak relied on crude tools and weapons but made up for it with their natural advantages, including almost complete invulnerability to elemental attack and their ability to spread an organic protodermis-destroying disease through contact.

While always violent, the Zyglak became far more so after Toa Orde, the first Toa of Psionics, was assigned the task of calming the Zyglak. Orde got out of control with his powers, inadvertently increasing anger levels of all Zyglak, an event which prompted the decision of making all Matoran, and therefore Toa and Turaga, of Psionics created thereafter as female. A wandering tribe of Zyglak managed to kill all of the other members of the Toa Cordak excluding Lesovikk. This encounter happened to be the first battle with the Zyglak in the Matoran Universe.

Next, Toa Kopaka once single-handedly defeated several dozen Zyglak. Sometime later, the Toa Inika, during their search for the Mask of Life, fought a group of Zyglak in the stone cord that connected Voya Nui with Mahri Nui. When Vezon arrived the Zyglak carried him off. This tribe was later killed by the mutated Piraka after they entered the cord. Barraki Kalmah, Takadox, and Mantax once encountered a group of Zyglak in ruins of the Pit. Makuta Spiriah amassed an army of Zyglak to attack and wipe out the Skakdi, the species which had humiliated him and destroyed his reputation. But, the Zyglak army was destroyed by Ehlek's species. When the Matoran Universe beings evacuated to Spherus Magna no Zyglak were spotted on Spherus Magna at first however, when the Great Spirit Robot was dismantled, the remaining Zyglak all arrived on Spherus Magna.

Protodites - created by the Great Beings.

Microscopic Rahi that have existed since before Mata Nui was first awakened.

Protodites were violent microscopic creatures created by the Great Beings to inhabit the Matoran Universe. These creatures were being studied by archivists when efforts to escape by a Kraawa rocked their container and shattered it. The Protodites spread rapidly, kept in check only by their one predator, the Archives Moles. Whether any protodites made it to Mata Nui is unknown. A unique feature of the protodite is that a physical impact causes one to split into two of equal size and strength.

Zaktan was transformed into a mass of protodites by the eyebeams of the Shadowed One. The Kanohi Ignika used its power to enlarge protodites into the monstrous Protodax.

Blade Burrower Species
Blade Burrowers - created by Makuta Mutran.

Powerful, mysterious, and dangerous Rahi dwelling in the Onu-Metru Archives in Metru Nui.

The Great Beings tampered with the makeup of the Blade Burrowers, which caused the Rahi to begin digging a series of tunnels as a result. It was told to beginner Metru Nui workers that if they wandered off while on the job a Blade Burrower would snatch them with its long tail.
The Blade Burrowers' form was created by Makuta Mutran, and used by the Barraki warlord Kalmah during his reign in the League of Six Kingdoms. Mutran engineered the Blade Burrowers he sent to Kalmah to die after a period of several days.
Whilst searching through the remains of Kalmah's fortress after the defeat of the League of Six Kingdoms, Mutran noticed the Burrowers, who had mysteriously survived their intended expiration date. He was intrigued by the series of tunnels they were creating, although he was unable to decipher the meaning. He later forced a captured Toa with a Kanohi Rau to attempt to speak to the Rahi, but the Rahi were unable to convey the meaning behind their behaviour. Rahaga Bomonga attempted to follow a population of Blade Burrowers in Metru Nui, in an attempt to map out their tunnel patterns, but was also unsuccessful in the task.

After the Battle of Bara Magna, the Blade Burrowers travelled to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Using their strong claws, Blade Burrowers dug tunnels endlessly in a specific pattern when they gathered in sufficient numbers. In the Archives, Archivists would occasionally mistake these passageways to be parts of the Archives, wandered down them, and would never be seen again (however, they later appear in different metrus; with no memory of these tunnels. Due to the mistaken purpose of the Burrowers to dig this shape and therefore cause mild amnesia to the Onu-Matoran). However, this shape is the symbol of the Three Virtues. A pattern of tunnels designed to remind Mata Nui of his mission.

Blade Burrowers possessed very poor eyesight; instead of using sight to hunt down prey, they used their sense of smell. When food in the Archives began to run low, they often ventured to the surface and caused massive destruction in their search for food. When the Vahki were still active, they used to put these raging Blade Burrowers into holding containers as quickly as possible, for the Rahi had long club-like tails that they could swing around, knocking others over and causing them to run, thus causing even more trouble.
Necrofinch species - created by the Makuta.

A Rahi bird that lived in the mountains of Zakaz. It was famous for its ability to sing after its death.
The Necrofinch species were created by the Brotherhood of Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. After their creation, the Necrofinch species took up residence in the Zakaz mountains.
After the Battle of Bara Magna, the species migrated to the newly-reformed planet of Spherus Magna.

Muaka Species
The Muaka - created by the Makuta.

Large Tiger-like Rahi.

The Muaka species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. They are cousins of the smaller Shallows Cat.

Due to their immunity to stasis, few Muaka were ever placed in the Archives, though several awake specimens were kept in a marked area. Toa Metru Whenua once encountered a Rahkshi in the Archives and released a Muaka from its pen to distract it while he rescued Tehutti. When Teridax caused the Great Cataclysm, many Muaka migrated to the island of Mata Nui. Teridax enlisted them in his Rahi army, placing them under his control through the use of Infected Kanohi.

After the Toa Mata arrived, Teridax concentrated his attack on them, utilizing his Rahi to the fullest extent. Once Lewa had recovered a Kanohi, he was ambushed by infected Nui-Rama, who knocked him out of the air into the waiting jaws of a Muaka. Onua dispatched the creature and rescued Lewa.

When the Toa Mata reunited, Teridax used the convenience of their grouping and had more Rahi attack them. Gali threw the Muaka that attacked her at Kopaka, who froze it solid.
Matoro also encountered a Muaka in The Drifts of Ko-Wahi. The beast attacked him, whom Takua was seeking at the time. Toa Kopaka arrived and saved the Matoran, backing the beast to the edge of a cliff using his newfound Kanohi Huna and Mahiki, and breaking off part of the glacier, sending the Muaka plummeting to the mountain below.

Teridax later assigned large amounts of Rahi, including Muaka, to attack Kini-Nui while the Toa Mata attempted to confront him. These Rahi conflicted various Matoran militants that had come to defend the sacred location. Eventually, the Matoran succeeded in repelling the Rahi, and the animals retreated after the defeat of Teridax. Teridax relinquished his hold over the Rahi, and the Muaka prowled the jungles of Mata Nui as they had before. Most Muaka of Mata Nui managed to avoid the Bohrok swarms and later migrated back to the Matoran Universe after the Bohrok were released intentionally by the Toa Nuva.

A majority of the species migrated to Spherus Magna after it was reformed.

Kane-Ra Species
Kane-Ra - created by the Makuta.

Buffalo-like Rahi.

Kane-Ra were originally created by the Makuta from a blend of Viruses in vats of Liquid Protodermis as part of their duty to populate the Matoran Universe with Rahi.

Kane-Ra were buffalo-like Rahi usually seen in Po-Wahi or Ko-Wahi on the island of Mata Nui and were native to Po-Metru on Metru Nui. Kane-Ra were solitary, herbivorous eaters and extremely territorial. They could stretch their necks to strike at opponents. When overtook by a Kraata-infected mask, Teridax usually had Kane-Ra work with Muaka. They were one of the largest plant-eating Rahi on Metru Nui and Mata Nui. Back in Metru Nui, Kane-Ra were not a real threat to Matoran. A majority of the Kane-Ra species in the Matoran Universe later migrated to Spherus Magna.

Archives Beast species - created by the Makuta.

The species of the Archives Beast was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. One specimen was stored in a sub-level of the Archives, under tight lock and key. It was believed to have some connection to the reconstitute at random Kanoka power. The Rahi supposedly inside was able to take on any appearance. When Toa Whenua and Toa Nuju came into the Archives Beast's cell in search of the Onu-Metru Great Disk, the Rahi had taken on the appearance of an empty room. Toa Nuju dissuaded the Rahi from trapping them by creating a blizzard in the cell, as the beast disliked the cold.

Archive Mole Species
Archives Moles - created by the Makuta.

The Archives Mole species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. They were small and harmless.

Originally living in the region of Po-Metru, the Archives Moles were forced to flee due to the increase of Assembler's Villages. A great number of the population fled to the shadowy recesses of the Archives and fed on small Rahi insects and Protodites. Due to their personality and their size, the Archives Moles had to focus on cooperation instead of fighting back to predators. They were proficient at this, forming ladders and bridges of themselves to help others of their species through the more treacherous areas of the Archives.

The Archives Moles used these same instincts when the Visorak invaded Metru Nui. They fled to areas in which the Visorak could not fit, such as the small cracks between buildings. The Visorak would either leave, as they thought better of their time than to try at impossible prey, or spin thick webs blocking the only ways out of the Archive Moles' hiding places, thus sealing them within. As a Rahaga, Bomonga claimed that any stray Visorak webbing in the Archives could be a sign of one of the Archives Moles' hiding spots.

The Archives Mole population later journeyed to Mata Nui and settled in Le-Wahi, later following the Matoran back to Metru Nui. Eventually, these friendly Rahi later migrated to Spherus Magna along with the other surviving Rahi species following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot.

Artakha Bull Species
Artakha Bulls - created by the Makuta.

The Artakha Bull species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A population of Bulls established themselves in Le-Metru in Metru Nui. They are one of the oldest kinds of Rahi known to the inhabitants of Metru Nui.

During the events of the Great Rescue, Rahaga Bomonga reported having extreme trouble capturing the Bulls because of their unusually high levels of intelligence and cunning.

Legend has it that the Bulls had intelligence far beyond anything the Matoran could ever hope to achieve, and for this reason were the only creatures allowed by Mata Nui to enter Artakha along with the Matoran. Another legend states that the Artakha Bulls were actually on Metru Nui long before Matoran populated it.

Abilities and traits

Artakha Bulls were very strong and swift, as well as excellent trackers. They were extremely hostile and bad-natured. Some Artakha Bulls were known to carry spear-like tools.

Ash Bears
Ash Bear species - created by the Makuta.

The Ash Bear species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

In Metru Nui, most were captured and placed in the Archives, although a few resided in the mountains of Po-Metru, sharing their territory with other large beasts such as Kikanalo.
After the Great Cataclysm, many of Metru Nui's Ash Bears fled to the island of Mata Nui above, though they later migrated back to the Matoran Universe. The species later migrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Ash Bears were at least two to three times larger than a Matoran and were extremely powerful. They possessed large jaws and sharp claws. They were usually peaceful unless their territory was threatened.

Bog Snake Species
Bog Snakes - created by the Makuta.

The Bog Snake were venomous serpents that were created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. In Metru Nui, Bog Snakes lived in the muddy shallows of the district of Onu-Metru. When traveling along the coast, the Onu-Matoran were well-advised to tread carefully so as not to disturb a Bog Snake nest. After the Great Cataclysm, several of the snakes migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui, where they were usually found in the jungles of Le-Wahi.

During the extensive deforestation of the Le-Wahi jungle caused by the Bohrok swarms, the Bog Snakes lost the shelter of the trees and were thus displaced from their habitat. All of the Bog Snakes eventually returned to the Matoran Universe.

A population of Bog Snakes also resided in the Voya Nui region of the Southern Continent. These snakes were carried with Voya Nui when the Great Cataclysm caused it to rocket to the surface of Aqua Magna and somehow continued their existence there. They later migrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Bog Snakes were venomous, and possessed extremely bad temperaments. They were natural enemies of the Ghekula and other small reptiles and amphibians that lived in the swamps, and were themselves preyed upon by Nui-Jaga. They would repel Nui-Jaga from their nests by swarming them en masse, forcing the scorpions to tire themselves out.

Brakas species - created by the Makuta.

Brakas are mischievous monkey-like Rahi, considered a pest by the Matoran.

The Makuta originally created the Brakas using an unknown combination of viruses and Liquid Protodermis.
In Metru Nui, Brakas were known to have occupied Le-Metru and Ga-Metru, where they made such pests of themselves that the Matoran eventually petitioned Turaga Dume to have them banned. Dume complied, and ordered the Vahki to capture all the entire population of Brakas and place them in Stasis Tubes in the Archives. However, the Brakas later escaped during the Great Cataclysm.

Subsequent to the Great Cataclysm, a large group of Brakas traveled to the jungles of Le-Wahi. They continued to make pests of themselves, and often stole fruit from village storehouses. These Brakas later migrated back to their original homeland, Metru Nui.

Several Brakas living in the Voya Nui region of the Southern Continent were known to have survived the region's ascent through the Southern Continent's dome. After the Battle of Bara Magna, the majority of the Brakas migrated to the newly-reformed planet of Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Brakas are not considered especially dangerous, although they sometimes work themselves into a frenzy, in which case they become a mild threat. They are also believed to have an extremely low level of intelligence.

Burnak Species
Burnak species - created by the Makuta.

Burnak were four-legged Rahi that resembled a cross between a dog, a cat and a shark. They were native to Voya Nui, and were sometimes tamed as Matoran pets.
These Rahi appeared in types possessing powers of the six main elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Stone, Ice, and Air Burnak. A Protodermis Burnak is also known to exist. There was also another type; Guardian Burnak that were trained by the Piraka to guard their Stronghold. Piruk also owned a Desert Burnak.

The respective types of Burnak were originally created by the Makuta species using a combination of liquid protodermis and viruses. When Voya Nui was broken off from the rest of the Matoran Universe during the Great Cataclysm, Burnak were on it and survived the ascent. It is unknown what happened to the Burnak when Voya Nui returned to its original position on the Southern Continent. Additionally, it is unknown how many Burnak, if any, escaped to Spherus Magna after the death of Makuta Teridax.

Known Types of Burnak

-
Fire Burnak - Burnak that lived near Mount Valmai and other volcanic regions

-
Water Burnak - Burnak that lived along the Cape of No Hope's beaches

-
Earth Burnak - Burnak that lived in the Green Belt

-
Stone Burnak - Burnak that lived in the Desert of Sorrows

-
Ice Burnak - Burnak that lived along the Ring of Ice

-
Desert Burnak - Burnak that lived in the Desert of Sorrows

-
Air Burnak - Burnak that lived on the eastern side of Voya Nui, including the Desert of Sorrows, the Ring of Ice, and the Green Belt

-
Protodermis Burnak - Burnak that lived near the Lake of Protodermis

-
Guardian Burnak - Burnak that guarded the Piraka Stronghold

Powers and traits

Overall, Burnak were harmless, unless provoked. When attacked, they could retaliate with an blast of their respective Elemental power or a simple attack, depending on which type it was. Each type of Burnak lived in a different environment fitting to their nature.
Cable Crawler Species
Cable Crawlers - created by the Makuta.

Cable Crawlers were bizarre creatures that were created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. In Metru Nui, the Cable Crawlers lived in the cables that were above and overlooking Le-Metru. They were also known to nest in cargo holds of Matoran airships and ate shipments of Rahi bound by air to the Archives. (This was not known until the Matoran opened the cargo hold of an airship only to discover its a shipment of Rahi devoured by Cable Crawlers.)

They normally leave the Matoran alone, but were considered pests by the Matoran due to the Cable Crawlers' habit of using their claws to slice through thick power cables into pieces when searching for food.

Abilities and traits

Cable Crawlers are nocturnal and mostly can be seen hunting at night. They had the ability to unleash blasts of energy that distort balance and often can cause vertigo to its enemies. The Cable Crawlers used this ability to quickly overcome small preys or other climbing-type Rahi and to distract larger predators by distorting their sense of balance; allowing the Cable Crawlers to quickly escape.

Catapult Scorpions
Catapult Scorpions - created by Makuta Chirox.

Catapult Scorpions were savage scorpion Rahi with razor-like pincers, sharp teeth, and a head covered with spines and horns.

The Catapult Scorpions were created by the Makuta named Chirox. Using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to populate the Matoran Universe. Catapult Scorpions are known to have nested in caverns beneath the Sculpture Fields of Po-Metru and rarely emerged. When they did surface, Phase Dragons, Rock Raptors, Tunnelers, and Po-Matoran were wise to stay away as they considered every living thing except the Kikanalo an enemy. Catapult Scorpions were also commonly mistaken for large Nui-Jaga, however they were far more hostile and dangerous. They never migrated to Mata Nui, but they later migrated to Spherus Magna from the Matoran Universe.

Abilities and traits

Catapult Scorpion's most effective tool was its "catapult" stinger, which allowed it to somehow materialize a ball of molten magma at the tip of its tail, quickly harden it into a solid rock, and then snaps its stinger forward; launching the rock at its foes. The scorpions ate solid protodermis and their preferred hunting method was following herds of Kikanalo and consume whatever the Kikanalos' horns dig up. However, as the Kikanalo herds decline and almost near-extinct, the scorpions are forced to wander about in Po-Metru in search of food.
Cave fish species - created by the Makuta.

The Cave Fish species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis as a Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. Many schools of Cave Fish made their home in the Silver Sea surrounding Metru Nui and also in Ga-Metru. During the Great Cataclysm, the schools of Cave Fish migrated to the waters of Aqua Magna around Mata Nui and integrating into the natural ecosystem. After the defeat of Makuta Teridax; the schools of Cave Fish migrated to Spherus Magna along with other Rahi species.

Abilities and traits

When the Cave Fish feel threatened; they will defend themselves by absorbing large amounts of Liquid Protodermis though their skin and inflating themselves to make them appear larger in an effort to scare off their predators. In Ga-Metru, Ga-Matoran used the decreased Cave Fish to absorb leaks in their Protodermis purification vats.
Chute Lurkers
Chute Lurker species - created by the Makuta.

The Chute Lurker species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Chute Lurkers preferred to hunt in the interior of Metru Nui chutes. They have the ability of breathing liquid protodermis, although they can also breathe air as well. However, the Chute Lurkers rather tried avoiding being outside of the chutes anymore than they had to be. When the Great Cataclysm occurred and with the Chute System damaged by it, they were forced to abandon their usual hunting ground due to lack of food. However, once the Chute Lurkers emerged from the damaged chutes, they became targets of the Visorak. They later migrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Chute Lurkers hunted by locking themselves in place inside a chute with their arms (preferably at a sharp corner, where a traveler is less likely to spot the Rahi ahead of time), and waiting for other Rahi, objects, or a Matoran to pass close enough for the Rahi to grab it. Once caught by a Chute Lurker, there was rarely any escape unless the captive was aided by a Matoran or a Vahki.

Colony Drones Species
Crystal Climber Species
Dermis Turtle species
Dagger Spiders
Cliff Screecher species - created by the Makuta.

Cliff Screechers were a bat-like Rahi, and one of the last of its kind on Odina.

The Cliff Screecher species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. Cliff Screechers were given this name because of the screeching sound they make as they were about to dive for their prey. They used to live on the island of Odina where a legend say that they were said to be incapable to be killed, since its spirit was housed somewhere else thus making it immortal. It is unknown weather or not if they migrated to Spherus Magna along with other Rahi species or if they are extinct.

Abilities and traits

Cliff Screechers usually settled near the high cliffs on Odina's coasts as the cliffs were their hunting ground. They would attack anything that try to attempted to scale the high cliffs by swiftly diving down to its prey with a loud screech. They would then knock over its prey down the cliffs, swoop down and catch its prey, place it back onto the cliff surface and repeated this process over and over again until the prey died of shock and/or fear.

Colony Drone species - created by the Makuta.

The Colony Drone species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

History

Colony Drones were captured by the Brotherhood of Makuta around after the Makuta fought and conquered the Visorak horde. They were forced by the Visorak to use their Rhotuka spinners to 'feed' the spider-like creatures. Wherever the Visorak went, they brought the Colony Drones with them and had them penned up in webbed-like containers and guarded. They were completely docile and did not object to their treatment at the Visorak's hands (either because they were not intelligent enough to comprehend their situation or because they feared the horde too much to resist).

During Visorak hordes' invasion of Metru Nui; Rahaga Iruini and Bomonga had once debated on whether or not to have a group of Metru Mantis to attack the enslaved Colony Drones in order to weaken the Visorak hordes; however, Rahaga Norik and Gaaki objected to this suggestion, saying once that happened the Drones would be easy prey, as the Drones were harmless Rahi.

In another unknown invasion, Toa Chiara had once snuck into a Visorak horde's camp and electrocuted a group of Colony Drones to prevent the Visorak from feeding on their energy. She then killed the hungry spiders individually (when the hordes were forced to find other sources of food).

Some time later, when all of the Visorak hordes were drawn to Artidax by the Heart of the Visorak and were killed by a volcanic eruption. The Drones were released from the hordes' control; however, their freedom was very short when Makuta Teridax (in Mata Nui's body) had revived and recreated the Visorak hordes and recaptured them again (to re-support the Visorak).

After Teridax's death, the Colony Drones migrated to Spherus Magna along with other Rahi species.
Crystal Climber species - created by the Makuta.

The Crystal Climber species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

They lived atop Knowledge Towers in Metru Nui, in small, tight-knit groups (for they learned that if too many nested at once, the towers would cave in). They had sharp claws, a long tail for balance, and excellent night vision. Preying on the Ice Bats that nested in Knowledge Towers, Crystal Climbers were extremely hard to remove once they were settled in a good hunting area. As a result of this habit, they were considered pests. Once the Great Cataclysm struck and most Vahki were eliminated, the Rahi settled in the Knowledge Towers permanently. They later migrated to Mount Ihu on Mata Nui. It is unknown whether or not they migrated to Spherus Magna with the other Rahi.

Dagger Spider species - created by the Makuta.

The Dagger Spider species was first created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the numerous Rahi that inhabited the Matoran Universe.
A large population of Dagger Spiders established themselves on the Southern Continent. When the Great Cataclysm caused the area of the Southern Continent known as Voya Nui to rocket to the surface of Aqua Magna, the Spiders were carried to the surface along with the land mass, and continued their lives for a thousand years. On Voya Nui, they were usually seen in the Green Belt.

Abilities and traits

Dagger Spiders were named for their sharp, dagger-like legs. Usually, they were seen in large swarms that crawled out of large cracks in the ground. The Spiders did not bite their enemies when attacking, setting them apart from other Rahi spiders. Instead, they usually feinted as if to bite, but then stabbed with their front legs, injecting a paralysing venom into the victim.

Dermis Turtles - created by the Makuta.

The Dermis Turtle species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Dermis Turtles are small, peaceful turtle Rahi with almost impenetrable silver shells. They are good weather indicators: they would retreat into their shells if a storm was on the way. Rahaga Gaaki said they also had a musical cry that the Ga-Matoran on Metru Nui had gotten used to and even enjoyed. They can use their sharp silver tusks for defence.
Following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot, the Dermis Turtles later left the Matoran Universe to begin new lives on Spherus Magna.

Dikapi species - created by the Makuta.

The Dikapi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Dikapi were flightless desert bird Rahi known for their great stamina. Dikapi were excellent runners, and Po-Matoran on Mata Nui trained some to carry scouts and messengers. When the Great Cataclysm caused the creation of the island of Mata Nui, some of the Dikapi of Metru Nui migrated to the island and integrated into the Po-Wahi ecosystem. The Po-Matoran tamed the Dikapi to act as scouts and messengers rode trained Dikapi across the vastness of the Po-Wahi deserts.

1,000 years later, the Dikapi migrated with the Po-Matoran back to Metru Nui. After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Dikapi emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Doom Vipers - created by Makuta Chirox

Makuta Chirox created the Doom Viper species using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Doom Vipers were six headed snake-like Rahi created by Makuta Chirox. They had toxic breath that could kill any forms of life, with the exception of others of their kind. They got into Ga-Metru once by way of a merchant ship that arrived from a distant land. Curiously, it was unmanned, but by the time that this was discovered, the Doom Vipers had slithered their way out of the ghost ship onto the island. Due to the toxic breath, only mechanical beings like Vahki had much success against them.

The Visorak had little success capturing them, as their venom weakened the webbing, so the Visorak trapped them in enclosed places and sealed them. Sometimes other Rahi unearthed these tombs to find the Doom Viper alive. The same could not be said for the rescuer.

On their return to Metru Nui, the Toa Nuva defeated several Doom Vipers by using their Kakama Nuva to confuse them and defeat them. Most of the Doom Vipers were then locked in Stasis Tubes in the Archives.
One specimen tried to kill the Voya Nui Resistance Team, but was stopped by Brutaka, who created a vortex with his Kanohi Olmak that trapped it and teleported it over a pool of lava.

Dust Darter species - created by the Makuta.

The Dust Darter species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. Dust Darters were a small species of Rahi that fed on metallic Protodermis. Many of the Matoran in Karzahni were suffering from armour erosion due to these creatures. They were very hard to see and lived in the Dust Waterfall in Karzahni.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Dust Darters emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Dweller in the Deep - huge aquatic Rahi beast created by the Makuta.

The Dweller in the Deep was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Dweller in the Deep was a massive underwater beast that lived in the sea beneath the Great Temple.
Toa Metru Nokama encountered it during her search for the Ga-Metru Great Disk, which turned out to be wedged between two of the creature's teeth. The dweller's preferred prey was Great Temple Squid.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Dweller in the Deep emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Electric Bugs - created by the Makuta.

Electric Bugs are small insect Rahi who can deliver electric shocks.

The Electric Bug species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. After the Great Cataclysm, Electric Bugs came to inhabit the island of Mata Nui, settling in Le-Wahi. Many were placed under the influence of Teridax. A number of Electric Bugs lived in the Nui-Rama Hive, coexisting with Nui-Rama.

1,000 years into the Great War, the Av-Matoran Takua was accosted by Electric Bugs while searching for Lewa's Toa Stone in Le-Wahi.
Shortly afterwards, the Nui-Rama captured the Matoran of Le-Koro and put them to work in the hive, where each was monitored by an Electric Bug. On the occasion that a Matoran would falter, they would be shocked by their Electric Bug overseer until they resumed their mining. When Onua arrived to remove Lewa's Infected Kanohi, an Electric Bug crawled onto Onua's shoulder, which he lifted using his Kanohi Matatu and sent flying towards Lewa, knocking off his Infected Kanohi.

A short time later, these Electric Bugs returned to Metru Nui with the Matoran after the defeat of Teridax.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving Electric Bugs left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Fader Bulls - created by the Makuta.

The Fader Bull species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Fader Bull are harmless herbivorous bull-like Rahi that could teleport away from danger. It is unknown where these Rahi originally came from and how they came to Po-Metru. They are named because their teleportation leaves behind a ghostly image of themselves that slowly fades away (whenever they feel threatened) and also apparently have a natural power similar to a teleportation Kanoka Disk.

No Matoran on Metru Nui knows why the Fader Bulls have these abilities nor how they control the distance and direction of their abilities, as these Rahi are one of the most difficult to capture and also always cause a constant frustration to the Visorak horde. But in past encounters; Po-Matoran had sometimes stumbled upon a Fader Bull that had materialised inside a rock or other solid objects. The Fader Bull population survived the Visorak's attack on Metru Nui.

Following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot, the Fader Bulls later left the Matoran Universe to begin a new life on Spherus Magna.

The Fenrakk Spawn species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Fenrakk Spawn colony established itself in the Southern Continent. When the Great Cataclysm caused Voya Nui to rocket to the surface of Aqua Magna, these area's Fenrakk Spawn survived the ascent and continued to live on the island. Some Fenrakk Spawn were tamed by the Toa Inika and used as steeds. Nuparu did not truly trust these creatures, but Jaller claimed they were a key to defeating the Piraka.

However, when the Toa Mahri shattered the Cord and returned Voya Nui to its rightful place below, these Fenrakk Spawn may not have survived the descent. After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Fenrakk emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Fikou species - created by the Makuta.

Fikou are dangerous spider-like Rahi.

The Fikou species, along with a sub-species with pincers and a stinger, was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Fikou were dangerous tree spider Rahi commonly found in Le-Wahi vines, Le-Metru chutes, and Onu-Metru. They came in orange and black coloring, with the orange ones being more common. A variety with pincers and a stinger had been seen on Voya Nui. Fikou communicate using chirping sounds. They are best known for spinning incredibly intricate webs close to the ground and jumping out suddenly at passing prey.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Fikou emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna. The Fikou are currently looking for a region on Spherus Magna similar to their former habitats.

Frost Beetles
Frost Beetle species - created by the Makuta.

The Frost Beetle species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Frost Beetles were insectoid Rahi that were heavily armoured and had razor-sharp claws to defend themselves from predators. They could easily drive away other smaller Rahi and claim most of Ko-Metru, but instead they spend most of their time trying to force their way into Knowledge Towers in Ko-Metru and try to consume the Memory Crystals there (that grows into new Knowledge Towers).

A theory (once proposed by Matoro) is that they actually absorb knowledge from the crystals they consumed, share it through a sort of hive-mind, and so increasing the intelligence of the entire species. Though it is far fetched, it would explain their behaviour.

These creatures were never seen on Mata Nui and it is unknown whether or not they migrated to Spherus Magna with the other surviving Rahi species.

Frost Leeches Species
Frost Leech species - created by the Makuta.

The Frost Leech species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Frost Leeches emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Furnace Slamander
Furnace Salamander species - created by the Makuta.

The Furnace Salamander species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A population of Salamanders settled in Ta-Metru in Metru Nui. They inhabited the dark corners and crevices of furnaces and foundries, sharing their territory with Hikaki. Even the Matoran workers did not see it very often.
When the Morbuzakh attacked Metru Nui, the Salamanders were forced out of the Great Furnace, but the Matoran did not view it as significant. When the Visorak invaded Metru Nui most of the furnaces were destroyed, so the Furnace Salamanders were forced to move to the volcanic vents filled with Liquid Protodermis that surrounded Ta-Metru.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Furnace Salamanders emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Fusa species - created by the Makuta.

The Fusa species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Fusa emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Gadunka species - created by the Makuta.

The Gadunka species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. Gadunka made their homes in the Silver Seas, including the surroundings of the Pit.

Gadunka was a Rahi that was originally an inch long, but was accidentally enlarged by the energies of the Mask of Life when it crawled under the Mask, seeking shelter. This creature fought the Toa Mahri twice during their time in the Pit. First, it was chasing the Barraki out of what it believed to be it's territory, and Hewkii defeated it. He fought them again later, actually reaching the Ignika, but was reverted back to its original state. He was later eaten by a Takea Shark.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Gadunka of Metru Nui emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Gafna species - created by the Makuta.

The respective types of Gafna were originally created by the Makuta species using a combination of liquid protodermis and viruses. When Voya Nui was broken off from the rest of the Matoran Universe during the Great Cataclysm, Gafna were on it and survived the ascent. It is unknown what happened to the Gafna when Voya Nui returned to its original position on the Southern Continent. Additionally, it is unknown how many Gafna, if any, escaped to Spherus Magna after the death of Makuta Teridax.

Gate Guardian species - created by the Makuta.

The Gate Guardian species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A Gate Guardian was a large Rahi that projected an image of a smaller vision of itself while keeping its real form invisible. They were an ally of the Visorak. They walked on two legs and had two heads, one on each side of their body. Enemies often exhausted themselves trying to bring down the small Guardian they thought they were looking at, never knowing their true opponent was hidden from them.

Toa Hordika Nokama and Rahaga Gaaki encountered one in the Great Temple while retrieving Kanohi for their new lives on the island above. The Gate Guardian kept them from advancing and Nokama attempted to fight it, but was knocked senseless. Gaaki revealed that it was an illusion by firing a Rhotuka spinner at it, the spinner disappeared before it hit the illusion. Nokama then used a water spinner to find where the real one was by following its outline when doused in water. Her Hordika side went rampant and she tried to kill the Gate Guardian when Gaaki stopped her.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Gate Guardians emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Ghekula species - created by the Makuta.

The Ghekula species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Ghekula were amphibious creatures located in the swamps beneath Le-Wahi on Mata Nui. The Bohrok forced the Ghekula to migrate, and many of them resided on the calm waters near Ga-Koro. It was considered bad luck to hurt a Ghekula. Before the coming of the Toa, Ahkmou ran a scheme of selling "lucky Ghekula" to Matoran, But Turaga Onewa stopped this because a Ghekula attacked a Matoran in Le-Koro.

After the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, the Ghekula followed.

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Ghekula emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Great Temple Squids - created by the Makuta.

The Great Temple Squid species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Great Temple Squid was a massive squid Rahi that possessed a razor-sharp beak. It also had twelve powerful arms ending in smaller beaks. Its only known predator was the Dweller in the Deep, but it has also been seen in the grip of two crab-like Manas.

The Toa Metru encountered this creature during their trip through the Great Barrier. Toa Nuva Gali also fought a Great Temple Squid during her quest for the Kanohi Nuva.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Great Temple Squids emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Gukko Bird species - created by the Makuta.

The main four-winged Gukko species, along with its sub-species the vulture-like Kewa and the hawk-like Kahu, were all created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be some of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Gukko were a species of large bird-like Rahi. Gukko birds were extremely swift, and generally peaceful, though they would fight if threatened. The Le-Matoran on Mata Nui often tamed Gukko for their Gukko Force. Gukko were also present on Metru Nui, where they lived in the tangled cables of Le-Metru.

Jaller and Takua rode a Gukko bird on their search for the seventh Toa to get through Le-Wahi.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Gukko emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Gukko Birds
Hahnah Crab species - created by the Makuta.

The Hahnah species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

One member of the species was attracted to the heat and light produced by Toa Mahri Jaller's sword during the Toa Mahri's escape from the undersea caves the Barraki put the Toa in. Ever since then, it followed him. Upon seeing it, Jaller wondered if he had seen Toa Mata Tahu the same way when he had first arrived on Mata Nui.

The crab saved Kongu from a vampiric sea squid by ripping the organic creature apart. It also distracted Mantax by firing a Cordak blaster, allowing Jaller to close in on both the Barraki and the Ignika.
When the Toa Mahri were teleported back to Metru Nui, the Crab was left behind.

When the Great Cataclysm struck and the Pit was destroyed, allowing its occupants to escape into the Black Water of Aqua Magna above, a population of Hahnah migrated to the planet's waters as well.
1,001 years later, Mata Nui reformed Spherus Magna, including Aqua Magna. Some Hahnah may have died during the process. The Hahnah of Aqua Magna continued to live underwater, relatively unaffected by the reformation.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the remaining Hahnah emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Hikaki Species
Hoto species - created by the Makuta.

The Hoto species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Hoto bugs were taken as pests on Mata Nui and Metru Nui as it was shown as one of the reasons that Toa Hagah Iruini wanted to leave his fellow Toa was because he thought his talents were wasted by not taking care of threats such as a Hoto bug invasion.

They later migrated to Spherus Magna from the Matoran Universe.

Abilities and traits

Hotos' bodies could give off enough heat to tunnel through the ground and even some buildings.

Hoto Bugs
The Husi species - created by the Makuta.

Large ostrich-like Rahi found in arid regions.

The Husi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

On Metru Nui, the Husi once roamed free on the rocky crags of Po-Metru before being hunted almost to extinction by the Muaka and other predators, so they were placed in the Archives for their own protection.

After the Great Cataclysm, these Husi escaped captivity and fled to the island of Mata Nui, where they took up residence in the rocky crags of Po-Wahi. Though they could be dangerous due to their swift, lethal pecking, the Husi were often tamed by Po-Matoran. They were commonly traded at bazaars and markets in Po-Koro in exchange for goods and services.

When the Bohrok swarms were awakened, native Husi flocks had to compete for food with herds of Vako and Fusa, which were displaced by the deforestation of the Le-Wahi jungle.

When the Po-Matoran returned to Metru Nui, they brought their tamed Husi with them. Any remaining wild Husi migrated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Husi emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Husi species
Hydruka species - created by the Makuta.

The Hydruka were created by the Makuta using various Viruses and liquid protodermis.

Hydruka were aquatic scorpion-like Rahi native to the Pit, and were known for their ill-tempered nature.

Hydruka were herd Rahi of the inhabitants of Mahri Nui. They were used by the Matoran in that area to harvest Airweed, which they used to create air bubbles needed to live safely underwater. Hydruka were the favourite prey for Ehlek's eels. They still remained in the sea after Mahri Nui was destroyed and the Matoran left.

After a few months, Mata Nui reformed Spherus Magna, including Aqua Magna. The Hydruka continue to live underwater, relatively unaffected by the reformation.

Abilities and traits

They also had the ability to create Solidified Air Bubbles that could be launched at sea creatures. Like Nocturn, they were unaffected by the mutagenic water surrounding Mahri Nui.
The Hydruka
Ice Bat species - created by the Makuta.

The Ice Bat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Ice Bats were hostile Rahi that lived in the Ko-Metru Knowledge Towers. Ice Bats were feared by Ko-Matoran for their destructive flights through the Knowledge Towers. A swarm of bats, when frenzied, could destroy countless information. Airship pilots were reluctant to fly over Ko-Metru because of the ice bats. Crystal Climbers were known to have fed upon them.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Ice Bats emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Ice Vermins - created by the Makuta.

Rodent-like species of Rahi that traveled in packs to attack larger creatures. Its Rhotuka spinner could create earthquakes.

The Ice Vermin species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Until the Great Cataclysm, the Ice Vermin were simple and harmless creatures. However, when the cataclysm occurred, their Rhotuka absorbed some of its energy, thus arming the Rahi. The improvement gave the Ice Vermin the ability to attack creatures much larger than themselves when travelling in packs.
The Ice Vermin claimed more and more of the city as their territory as time went on. This led to fights with Kavinika and Stone Rats, weakening all three sides and making them easy prey for the Visorak. Whenua made capturing the Ice Vermin a priority, as they could have destroyed what was left of the city if unchecked, or the Visorak could have mutated these creatures into something far more dangerous.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Ice Vermin emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Ice Vermin Species
Infernavika species - created by the Makuta.

The Infernavika species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Infernavika were a species of tiny Rahi with an avian resemblance that resided in places with scorching heat. On Metru Nui, it could be found near protodermis waste pipes on the coast of Ta-Metru. After the Great Cataclysm, it migrated to Mata Nui and lived in the molten lava near Ta-Koro. Due to the blistering conditions of its preferred environment it was usually protected from predators.

1,000 years later, these Infernavika moved back to Metru Nui with the Matoran.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Infernavika emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Infernavika
Kahu species - created by the Makuta.

The Kahu species, a sub-species of the Gukko, was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kahu were huge bird Rahi that were part of the Gukko family of Rahi. Gukko birds were extremely swift, and generally peaceful, though they would fight if threatened. Le-Matoran often tamed Gukko for their Gukko Force. Rahaga Kualus insisted that "Gukko" was the incorrect name for the species, and may even have been an insult in their language. A bright green energy filled a Kahu's wings when it flew.

1,000 years later, the Kahu migrated back to the Matoran Universe when the Bohrok swarms were awakened to cleanse the island.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kahu emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Kahu birds
The Kanohi Dragon - created by the Makuta.

The Kanohi Dragon was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Kanohi Dragon was a powerful creature that dwelled near Ta-Metru and would fly around Metru Nui, causing the skies to blacken and soot to fall from its body as it snaked through the heavens. Fused to its body were supposed Kanohi Masks. It is believed by some that these scale-like objects are actual Kanohi, meant to lure in unsuspecting victims, while others think that they are nothing more than scales.

History

80,000 years prior to the Great Cataclysm, the dragon lived in Ta-Metru. The dragon, after a battle, was sealed in a cave in Metru Nui's silver sea. The cave was covered with a 100 foot block of ice.
Approximately 4,000 years prior to the Great Cataclysm, the Kanohi Dragon was unleashed on Metru Nui. It was freed from its ice cave by Reidak, Vezok, and Avak on orders from the Shadowed One. The goal was for the three Dark Hunters to offer Turaga Dume protection from the beast, in exchange for him allowing for a Dark Hunter base to be created on Metru Nui. Turaga Dume refused, and the Toa Mangai came to fight off the Dragon. After a month of fighting, the dragon was finally defeated, with special help from the 4 Toa of Ice who froze it. It was then moved to Xia where it was examined by the Vortixx.

After Botar moved the Tahtorak to Xia, the Tahtorak began fighting it. It destroyed most of Xia during the battle until it was interrupted by the Toa Hagah. The Tahtorak seriously wounded the dragon until Toa Norik used a slowness Rhotuka to slow it down, and Toa Kualus stopped it with some ice blasts. Iruini then moved the Kanohi Dragon's legs away from The Mountain.

It was later released onto Spherus Magna.
Kanohi Dragon Species
Kavinika species - created by the Makuta.

The Kavinika species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis as one of the many species of Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kavinika were wolf-like, bipedal Rahi once used by Ga-Matoran scientists to guard certain places, low - priority facilities and items. Unfortunately, they were overly aggressive and started to fight with each other, Rahi and Ussal Crabs. The Kavinika then threatened their Matoran masters. The Ga-Matoran tried to drive the Kavinika out of Ga-Metru, but they had little success. Their population exploded for some unknown reason.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kavinika left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
The Kavinka
Keras species - created by the Makuta.

The Keras species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Keras were large coral crab Rahi that lived in the ocean of Ga-Metru, and in the reefs near Ga-Wahi. They were ferocious when protecting their home and were very hostile in general. Unfortunately, they were too hostile to train, save a few tamed by Ga-Matoran during the Bohrok War. During the Bohrok War, Gahlok drove Keras out of the ocean and onto beaches, so Onu-Matoran Ussalry members volunteered to help the Ga-Koro Defense Force tame a few Keras to fight against the Bohrok.

In the Pit, the Barraki Carapar had a large number of these creatures in his army. The Pit Mutagen in the waters there caused these specimens to become vicious. These crabs took control of the Fields of Air temporarily, and the Mahri Nui Matoran sent the Toa Mahri to force them out, but the crabs retreated on their own accord when the Barraki came to negotiate with the Toa. Carapar was later recaptured by Hydraxon, and the Keras were released from his command.

These special tamed Keras were fitted with plates on their backs to make them easier to ride. They could carry their riders across sea and land. As long as they were provided with shelter from the sun and fish to eat, they were content to defend Ga-Koro.

A few months later, Mata Nui reformed Spherus Magna, including Aqua Magna. The Keras of the Pit continue to live underwater, relatively unaffected by the reformation. Those Keras in the Great Spirit Robot, which was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, then immigrated to Spherus Magna.

The Keras
Kewa species - created by the Makuta.

The Kewa species, a sub-species of the Gukko, was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Goko-Kahu, also known as Kewa, were kind of vulture-like Rahi which lived in Le-Koro. They were a cousin of the Kahu, who, like the Goko-Kahu, were utilised by the Gukko Force. Gukko birds were extremely swift, and generally peaceful, though they would fight if threatened. Rahaga Kualus insisted that "Gukko" is the incorrect name for the species, and may even be an insult in their language. Two of the breeds were previously called Kahu and "Kewa."

The Kewa later returned to the Matoran Universe after the Bohrok swarms destroyed Mata Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kewa left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
The Kewa
Kikanalo Species
Kikanalo species - created by the Makuta.

Massive rhino-like herd Rahi.

The Kikanalo species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to populate the Matoran Universe.

Kikanalo lived on Metru Nui, and were typically found in the Sculpture Fields of Po-Metru, digging up excess pieces of Protodermis. The Rahi were usually dismissed as non-sentient brutes. However, Toa Nokama discovered them to be very intelligent while communicating to them through her Kanohi Rau. The animals' preferred tactic was simple: stampede. Such stampedes were feared by even the Dark Hunters.
Additionally, they also wielded a sonic roar that could blow predators away. They once helped lead the Toa Metru to the prison where the rest of the team members and Turaga Lhikan were being held. They would later migrate to Mata Nui and back to Metru Nui. Some Kikanalo were seen on Voya Nui; however, some of them were destroyed by the Piraka Hakann because "they were blocking his view".

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kikanalo left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Kinloka species - created by the Makuta.

The Kinloka species was created by Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis in an experiment by the Brotherhood to produce a Rahi with a more efficient digestive system. The results were unexpected, instead creating nasty beasts similar to Stone Rats that devour anything in their path.

A population of Kinloka settled on Metru Nui. Most resided near the Moto-Hub in Le-Metru, although some were seen near Ko-Metru and in Ta-Metru. At one point, these Kinloka accessed a vault of Kanoka. Over time, they learned how to use them, and now commonly use them for hunting. Their small shooting power and range are compensated by great accuracy. The Rahi are seen to use many different Kanoka, but they usually carry weaken disks to slow down opponents. Mavrah once attempted an experiment with Kinloka in an Archives sub-level, but they broke free, causing great havoc.

Kinloka were also known to live on Zakaz. There, the native Skakdi used them to set off any hidden traps when they moved around the island, creating the slang term "stalking Kinloka."

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kinloka left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Kirikori Nui species - created by the Makuta.

Large, swarming, locust-like Rahi.

The Kirikori Nui species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kirikori Nui were locust-like Rahi found on Metru Nui and Mata Nui in massive swarms roughly every ten years, devouring all vegetation in sight. It was said that in an age long past, the wings of the Kirikori Nui darkened the skies of Mata Nui and their ringing call could drown out all other sound. Despite their scythe-like jaws and powerful legs, Kirikori Nui avoided confrontation with intelligent beings, bounding incredible distances away from even the slightest of disturbances. The Turaga knew the legends, however, and kept a watchful eye on the skies.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kirikori Nui left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Kirikori Nui
The Klakk - created by Makuta Mutran.

Klakk were bat-like Rahi species created by Makuta Mutran.

A number of Klakk were used to keep Makuta Miserix in his pit-like prison on Artidax. But over time, Miserix absorbed the bat-like Rahi due to the irritating screeching noises they were making, which had greatly annoyed him and to also to "grow in size" so he can be immune to their sonic screams. Some time later, Makuta Mutran created a Klakk on Karda Nui to guard his equipment in the swamp after his Shadow Leech Hive was destroyed by Toa Ignika. However the Rahi did not obey its order and escaped after attacking Vican and turned him back to his former self. The Klakk was soon found by Takanuva who used the Rahi to attack him and the Shadow Matoran (that were with the Makuta) to cure them from their condition.

However, all of the Klakk were later killed by the Energy Storms in Karda Nui. It is unknown if there is any other Klakk that are still alive in other places nor knowing if any survived that may have migrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Klakk had the ability to unleash powerful sonic screams, which could quell even a Makuta. Their screams could also destroy the mental barrier that kept moral light from naturally returning to a being, thus reversing the effects of a Shadow Leech, an Avsa, or Gorast's stinger, thus changing whoever was affected by any of those things back to their normal selves. The first Matoran to return from being a Shadow Matoran to normal by the Klakk was Vican. The Klakk species have also cured Takanuva, Gavla, Kirop, and Radiak, as well as several other unknown Shadow Matoran.

The Klakk species
Kofo-Jaga species - created by the Makuta.

The Kofo-Jaga species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kofo-Jaga are a species of scorpion Rahi that thrived in the heat of molten lava. The Onu-Matoran of Mata Nui feared them greatly, especially when access to the Lightstone Mines was cut. Miners often stumbled upon Kofo-Jaga nests when mining, and Turaga Whenua often had to be on-site when digging new tunnels to detect hidden Kofo-Jaga nests with his Drill of Onua.

Toa Nuva Onua and Whenua encountered a swarm of them during their search for the Kanohi Nuva. There were also Kofo-Jaga on Voya Nui, but these most likely did not survive the island's return to the Southern Continent.

Following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot, the Kofo-Jaga moved onto Spherus Magna.

Kofo-Jaga Species
Kraawa species - created by the Makuta.

Long-necked Rahi.

The Kraawa species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kraawa were long-necked Rahi with the ability to absorb any kinetic energy used against it, and use this force to grow larger. Though a gentle and non-aggressive species, this power made it one of the most problematic Rahi to face. One Kraawa became half the size of a Knowledge Tower, prompting several Onu-Matoran to move it into the Archives, where it took up 3 levels. Because of their size, the Kraawa were not held in Stasis Tubes, but instead just locked up. The Kraawa once escaped during the protodite breakout, which caused many other Rahi to break free. Though they were recovered, the Kraawa was able to leave the Archives during the Great Cataclysm.

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Kraawa left the Matoran Universe and immigrated onto Spherus Magna.
Kuma Nui species - created by the Makuta.

Kuma-Nui are huge rat-like Rahi.

The Kuma-Nui species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Kuma-Nui were giant rat-like Rahi that lived in the maintenance tunnels of the Archives, particularly in the Ta-Metru or Ko-Metru areas of Metru Nui (they later migrated to Ta-Wahi and Onu-Wahi). A majority of these Rahi later migrated to the island of Mata Nui after the Great Cataclysm, but returned after the Bohrok cleansed the island.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kuma-Nui left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Lava Ape species - created by the Makuta.

Ape-like Rahi.

The Lava Ape species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Lava Apes were ape-like Rahi which lived on Voya Nui. In theory, they once lived on the southern continent prior to the Great Cataclysm, but part of the population must have been stranded on Voya Nui when it broke out of Mata Nui's chest.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Lava Apes left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Lava Apes
Lava Crawler species - created by the Makuta.

The Lava Crawler species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Lava Crawler was a large type of Rahi that lived near the lava flows of Voya Nui. The species was originally created by the Brotherhood of Makuta by mixing Viruses with liquid protodermis. On Voya Nui, a number of Lava Crawlers were forcibly turned into Caravan Crawlers by the Piraka.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, any surviving Lava Crawlers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Lava Eels - created by the Makuta.

Eel-like Rahi.

The Lava Eel species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Lava Eels were eel-like Rahi that could increase their skin temperature progressively as they got upset, to the point where they could melt through almost anything, including metal. Ta-Matoran sometimes kept them as pets, at least until they became too large and destructive. At that point, the Ta-Matoran would release them back into the city. A Lava Eel once melted a metal pole beneath Toa Hordika Vakama, almost killing him.

After the destruction of the Great Spirit Robot, many Lava Eels left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Lava Hawks - created by the Makuta.

Bird Rahi on Voya Nui.

The Lava Hawk species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Lava Hawks were bird Rahi on Voya Nui that were impervious to heat. Their method of catching food were diving into the lava and usually emerging with insects that live in the lava. Matoran often collected metallic scales shed from its wings to make boats that could withstand lava.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Lava Hawks left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Lava Hawk species
Lava Rat species - created by the Makuta.

The Lava Rat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Lava Rat was a small rodent Rahi that inhabited the Island of Mata Nui after the Great Cataclysm, specifically the volcanic Ta-Wahi region. It was immune to being burnt by fire and was known for its ability to spontaneously burst into flames. An old Matoran legend tells the tale of a Lava Rat trying to get across a body of water on the back of a Takea Shark - both were uneasy, because the Lava Rat was afraid the Takea would eat it and the Takea was afraid the Lava Rat would burst into flames.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Lava Rats left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Lightfish - created by the Makuta.

Minuscule jellyfish-like Rahi native to the underwater caves of Metru Nui.
The Lightfish were created made by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to populate the Matoran Universe.

A Lightfish was a fish Rahi that glowed brightly to attract prey in deep, dark water. They were used as a source of light to brighten the huts of the Ga-Matoran in Ga-Koro on Mata Nui in Aqua Magna.

Lightfish
Lohrak species - created by Makuta Chirox; later recreated by Makuta Mutran.

Some time before the rise of the League of Six Kingdoms, the first iteration of the Lohrak species was created by Makuta Chirox using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Lohrak were a species of large winged serpent Rahi that were found both in Metru Nui and some portions of Mata Nui. The Lohrak were known for their sharp teeth and scaly, poisonous hide, which was covered in slime. They flew at high velocities and had large fangs. They were commonly found underground. They hunted in swarms, some of which were said to be able to defeat a Toa.
As a result, Lohrak were considered a dangerous menace, particularly among Onu-Matoran miners. For a time, the creatures were even pronounced a protected species by Turaga Dume, in hopes of stopping digging projects that might unearth more monsters. The Toa Metru fought and defeated a swarm of Lohrak after escaping the Prison of the Dark Hunters, and later encountered a specimen mutated to monstrous size by the Visorak.

The Lohrak were originally created by Makuta Chirox, and then recreated by Makuta Mutran.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving Lohrak left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Lohrak species
Longfang species - created by the Makuta.

Large reptilian Rahi.
The Longfang species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

On Metru Nui, Longfangs lived in Onu-Metru, especially the Archives. After the Great Cataclysm, most of the smaller Rahi that made up their diet fled, forcing the Longfangs to move up onto the surface of the city to hunt. Turaga Dume tried to convince the Rahaga to capture the Longfangs, but the Rahaga refused, insisting that the Rahi had become part of Metru Nui's natural ecosystem.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving Longfangs left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Mahi species - created by the Makuta.

The Mahi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

were placid Rahi that lived in groups on the plains of Mata Nui. Although peaceful by nature, they were quick to react to dangerous situations. Their opponents would try to avoid the Rahi's horns and hooves, which it could use with surprising speed. They also seemed to have a surprising affection for Pohatu. When Gahlok-Kal took Pohatu's Nuva Symbol, it magnetised several Mahi to Pohatu. A Mahi's horns were quite valuable to Po-Matoran because they made a lot of weapons out of them, such as the Po-Koro guards' spears.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving Mahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Mahi species
Makika species
Makika species - created by the Makuta.

Large and very dangerous toad-like Rahi.

Makika were large and very dangerous toad-like Rahi. They were created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the first Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. The colony of Makika first settled in Po-Metru and shortly after the Great Cataclysm; some of the toads from the colony migrated to Mata Nui and settled into the sandy caves of Po-Wahi. Also an ice variety of these Rahi was also known to exist. Makika had very few natural predators because they were naturally poisonous.

A Makika captured Turaga Nokama (it is unknown how it got to Ga-Koro) and held her hostage. Takua threw a boulder at the Makika, stunning it long enough for the two to escape.
Matoran sometimes used their acidic venom in tunneling through stone or when mining by capturing most of these Rahi and extract their venom.

Later on, the Bohrok swarms drove away the Makika from their sandy caves while causing trouble to the Matoran on Mata Nui. The colony returned after the swarms finished cleansing the island.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Makika left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
"Makuta fish" species - created by the Makuta.

The Makuta Fish species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

When he first encountered one, Toa Metru Matau thought it resembled Teridax because of its ugliness, thus giving it its name. Nokama made her Trident out of the bones of a Makuta Fish. These fish would jump out of the water to attack larger creatures.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Makuta Fish within the Matoran Universe immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Mana-Ko Species
Mana-Ko - created by the Makuta.

The Mana Ko species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Mana-Ko were legendary crab Rahi believed to be Teridax's ultimate guardians. Mana-Ko tracked their prey by movement and could fire energy blasts. For all their power, they weren't very bright, when the Piraka encountered two in Teridax's lair, their repeated attacks kept blasting open escape routes for the thieves.

The Mana-Ko were in fact secretly loyal to the Order of Mata Nui. The Order tolerated the Brotherhood of Makuta's use of them, as the Mana-Ko sent vital information back to them, as well as guard Brotherhood weapons that the Order didn't want falling into the wrong hands. The Order of Mata Nui also trained the Mana Ko to shield their minds, in order to give them the ability to resist Teridax's Rahi control power.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Mana Ko left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Manutri species
Manutri species - created by the Makuta.

The Manutri species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. A population of Manutri made its home on the Southern Continent.

Manutri were a species of flightless Rahi birds native to Voya Nui. These birds lived in the Ring of Ice around the island, and spent most of their time fishing. Some of the Manutri were captured by Karzahni and forcibly trained by him to work as a small fighting force. These Manutri were equipped with Cordak Blasters and Squid Launchers that Karzahni stole from the Barraki's weapons cache.
They later migrated to Spherus Magna, along with all the other species of Rahi.
Manas Species
The Manas species - created by the Makuta.

The Manas species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Manas were gigantic, crab-like Rahi that were both smart and strong. They were known to be the most dangerous of the Rahi on Mata Nui. Nokama encountered the creatures during their trip to Mata Nui, witnessing two of them attack a sea slug Rahi. Later she named them Manas, the Matoran word for "monster".

Teridax controlled two Manas that were later freed (these same two were later encountered by Toa Onua and Turaga Whenua). Karzahni had several Manas in his realm. These Rahi were also attracted to heat.

When the Toa Mata journeyed to Teridax's lair, they encountered a group of Manas controlled by Teridax. The only way the Toa could defeat them was by merging into Toa Kaita: Wairuha and Akamai. At one point, Onua was able to pit a Kofo-Jaga against some Manas to defeat them.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Manas left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Nui-Jaga Species
Nui-Kopen Species
Phase Dragon species
Mukau species
Mata Nui Cows/Mukau species - created by the Makuta.

Bovine Rahi.
The Mata Nui Cow/Mukau species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Mukau (a.k.a. Mata Nui Cows) was a species of bovine Rahi that lived around Po-Wahi. Their natural habitat was on Mata Nui, and they were a very peaceful species of Rahi.

After the Great Cataclysm, the population of Cows that lived in Metru Nui migrated to the grassy plains found on the newly-formed island of Mata Nui, where they resided for 1,000 years.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Mata Nui Cows left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Mata Nui Fishing Bird
Mata Nui Fishing Bird species - created by the Makuta.

The Mata Nui Fishing Bird species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Mata Nui Fishing Bird was a species of bird Rahi that dove into coastal waters to catch prey. They also seemed to delight in diving toward the jaws of a predator, only to dodge at the last moment. They lived in the lower branches of the Le-Wahi jungle.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Mata Nui Fishing Birds migrated back to Metru Nui.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Mata Nui Fishing Birds left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Niazesk Species
Niazesk species - created by Makuta Bitil.

Niazesk were insect-like Rahi created by the Brotherhood of Makuta (specifically Bitil) in order to keep larger Rahi in check by using venomous bites. The Makuta then spread them all across the Matoran Universe in order to do so.

Mutran brought several of these Rahi to Karda Nui when the Makuta invaded it. They were mutated by the swamp water in the Swamp of Secrets and enlarged, becoming 7 feet (2.1 metres) tall and their venom strengthened. Several of these Niazesk attacked Takanuva, Gali and Pohatu in the Swamp of Secrets, but were defeated by Takanuva's Shadow blast. All the Niazesk in Karda Nui were later incinerated in the Energy Storms.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Niazesk left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Nui-Jaga species - created by the Makuta.

Species of scorpion-like Rahi.

The Nui-Jaga species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Nui-Jaga were huge scorpion Rahi with powerful stingers, whose strikes could be fatal. Most were slow and not very bright. They could be tricked by showing their reflection on a rock or wall. This was an advantage to Po-Matoran who hunted Nui-Jaga stingers. Being aggressive Rahi, they would attack the reflection, thus trapping their stingers. Nui-Jaga stingers were considered valuable in Metru Nui, but most of those who went after them never returned. Their known colors are light blue and purple. They usually lived in desert but have also been found in volcanic areas.

Once Takua was followed by a Nui Jaga and used a Muaka to get the two into a fight so he could escape. Jaller, Onepu, Hewkii, Macku, Kongu, and Matoro once formed a Matoran Nui to fight off a Nui-Jaga.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally released the Bohrok, the Nui-Jaga migrated back to Metru Nui. After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Nui-Jaga left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Nui-Kopen species - created by the Makuta.

Huge wasp-like Rahi.

The Nui-Kopen species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Nui-Kopen were giant wasp Rahi that were related to the Nui-Rama that guarded the inner parts of the nests, but Le-Matoran learned to tame them and use them for transportation. During the Makuta Wars, one Nui-Kopen was seen in the Nui-Rama Hive containing the enslaved citizens of Le-Koro, having stolen Lewa's Great Miru and replaced it with an infected Kanohi; after Lewa was freed from the infected mask by Onua, this Nui-Kopen specimen was controlled by the Komau-using Toa of Air. Later, Roodaka rode a mutated Nui-Kopen when she left the Coliseum in Metru Nui.

The Nui-Kopen that inhabited Mata Nui retreated back to Metru Nui after the Toa Nuva released the Bohrok swarms.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Nui-Kopen left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Nui-Rama Species
Nui-Rama species - created by the Makuta.

Large, insect-like Rahi.

The Nui-Rama species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Metru Nui

On Metru Nui, Nui Rama were the earliest recorded Rahi annoyances. Their main food was liquid Protodermis, so they lived mainly around or in Le-Metru, eating off the Chutes as it was safer than eating from the ocean. They would use their stinger to cut the Chutes and suck up the Protodermis. If the Nui Rama would gather in a large enough group, the Chutes would occasionally lose so much Protodermis that they would collapse.

Great Cataclysm

Mata Nui

After the Great Rescue, the Nui Rama, along with the Matoran, moved to Mata Nui. There they would mainly nest in Le-Wahi, although sometimes in Ta-Wahi too.

Matoran-Rahi War

Like most Rahi on Mata Nui, they had been given infected masks by Teridax and forced to do his bidding, spying on the Matoran and the Toa Mata. A Nui Rama in Ko-Wahi once attacked Kopaka and Matoro, causing them to fall off the edge of a cliff.
The Nui Rama swarm in Le-Wahi had launched two attacks on Le-Koro, kidnapping Turaga Matau and many of the Le-Matoran and taking them to their hive. They also placed an Infected Mask on Lewa, so he was under Makuta's command. After the masks were removed, the Nui Rama stopped fighting and were tamed. The Gukko Force even began to ride Nui Rama in addition to Gukko.
Parakrekks Species
Parakrekks species - created by the Makuta.

Vicious amphibian Rahi.

The Parakrekks species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Parakrekk were vicious amphibious Rahi that followed in the wake of the Protocairns, feeding off of the rubble the larger creatures leave behind. Long after the Protocairns had died, these creatures lingered, tearing down structures with their claws and feasting on the fragments.
Extremely good at finding concealment, they were very difficult to root out once they had gotten a foothold in a place. Left unchecked, they would eventually destroy an entire city due to their ravenous appetite.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Parakrekks left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Phase Dragons - created by the Makuta.

The Phase Dragon species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Phase Dragons are enigmatic Rahi which love speed. They used to chase airships and vehicles speeding along the Le-Metru test track, as well as other Rahi. When the Visorak invaded Metru Nui, the Phase Dragons began to chase anything that moved; sometimes they charged to get something to run and would accidentally cause harm.
Although they may look frightening, these Rahi possess a surprisingly gentle personality. Their name came from their uncanny ability to shift to a ghost-like form and "phase" through solid objects. This was a useful ability on the Le-Metru test tracks because, at high speeds, they were likely to hit something hard once in a while.

Following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot, the Phase Dragons later left the Matoran Universe to begin new lives on Spherus Magna.
Pokawi species
Pokawi Species- created by the Makuta.

Small, flightless bird-like Rahi.

The Pokawi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Pokawi were a type of flightless bird Rahi which lived in Le-Wahi. They scattered when attacked, which often served to confuse would-be predators, and fed on whatever vegetation was in sight.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Pokawi migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Pokawi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Proto Drake species
Proto Drake Species- Created by the Makuta.

Proto Drakes are graceful amphibious Rahi created by Makuta Kojol that dwelled in the Protodermis seas around Metru Nui, and later around the coast of Mata Nui.

Their fins allow them to move in water and gave them the ability to fly. Proto Drakes captured prey by using the claws on their fins and tail. They actually got their name for their habit in bathing in Ta-Metru vats. Onu-Matoran have theorized that these Rahi do this to remove parasites that attached themselves to the Drake's body. Some Proto Drakes live around The Pit, in the area known as Razor Whale's Teeth and hunted Takea sharks.

Following the collapse of the Matoran Universe, all its inhabitants evacuated onto Spherus Magna, with the Proto Drakes likely being rescued from the robot at some point afterwards.
Rahi Nui species - Created by Makuta Teridax and the Brotherhood.

The Rahi Nui was a mutant Rahi created by the Brotherhood of Makuta, to hunt down Toa.
History

The Rahi Nui was created by Makuta Teridax.

The first Toa to come across the Rahi Nui was Lesovikk and he was able to defeat it. How he accomplished this is unknown.

Teridax later gave the Rahi Nui to the Dark Hunters, and it was eventually returned. Teridax then placed it in the caverns beneath Mata Nui.

Toa Metru

The Rahi Nui fought the Toa Metru beneath Mata Nui while they were returning to Metru Nui. After a short, but intense, battle, the Rahi Nui managed to defeat all of the Toa Metru except Vakama and Nuju. The two then made an important discovery: The Rahi Nui increased in size when absorbing Elemental Power, but its mass did not increase. The two repeatedly hit with their energies until Rahi Nui grew too large to stay together, and it's molecules drifted apart.

Toa Nuva

It later reappeared in the Place of Shadow on Mata Nui, but without its Kanoka powers. When the Toa Nuva faced the Rahi Nui, Turaga Vakama used his Kanohi Huna to lure the Rahi Nui into a wall when the Rahi recognized his voice. Charging, the Rahi Nui missed Vakama, rammed his head into the wall, and got its horns stuck. Vakama and the Toa Nuva were then able to escape. The Rahi Nui remained trapped in the wall for a long time.

It later migrated to Spherus Magna after the Battle of Bara Magna.

Abilities and traits

The Rahi Nui had traits from several other Rahi species: the head of a Kane-Ra, the forelegs of a Tarakava, the body of a Muaka, the stinger of a Nui-Jaga, and enlarged wings from a Nui-Rama. The Rahi Nui was able to use all of the Kanoka Disk powers and absorb Elemental Energy, but later lost these abilities. It could also sense and trace elemental energy.
Ranama species
Ranama species - Created by the Makuta.

The Ranama species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Ranama were a type of giant fire-frogs that used to live in the molten Protodermis which ran through Ta-Metru and inside the vats which the Protodermis flows. Because of this Ta-Matoran considered them pests. The Ta-Matoran had to filter the molten Protodermis to get the Ranama out of the vats (in order to use the vats to mold tools and Kanohi masks) while being very careful not to be eaten by the Rahi.

The Ranama later migrated and thrived in the heat of Ta-Wahi on Mata Nui, where they swam through the lava flows. To obtain food, a Ranama would wait beneath the molten lava for an unwary Nui-Rama to fly past, then leap forth and ensnare the insect with its long and sticky tongue. Most Matoran knew better than to approach one of these fiery Rahi, but praised them, for they reduced the population of the deadly Nui-Rama.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Ranama left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Razor Whales species
Razor Whale species - Created by the Makuta.

The Razor Whale species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to populate the Matoran Universe.

Razor Whales were peaceful Rahi, despite their formidable appearance. Razor Whales had no natural enemy, although Nocturn would eat them when they came to the Razor Whale's Teeth near the Pit. They had a row of spines down their tail, which they used to scare off predators.
At some time in the whale's life, the spines in its tail would fall off. Strangely, after this happened, the Rahi would be easier to tame. Toa Hordika Nokama made an extra effort to protect these creatures from the Visorak, but since few specimens were seen off the Mata Nui coast, it remains unknown how successful she was. Elsewhere on the surface of the planet, however, Razor Whales could be found at the Razor Whale's Teeth near Mahri Nui. Razor Whales were said to have some relation to the smaller Razorfish.

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Razor Whales within were evacuated to Spherus Magna.
Razor Fish species - Created by the Makuta.

The Razorfish species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Razorfish were aquatic Rahi with spines that were sharp enough to sink boats with a slight touch. They were also smaller relatives of the Razor Whale. Although they were called "Razorfish", they were actually a species of small whales.

Razorfish lived in the Silver Sea off of Ga-Metru, where they were responsible for accidentally sinking several boats.

After the Great Cataclysm, some Razorfish migrated to the island of Mata Nui, where they lived in Ga-Wahi for 1,000 years. When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Rahi either migrated back to Metru Nui or fled deeper into the seas of Aqua Magna.

Some Razorfish migrated into the Pit after the Great Cataclysm, and lived for 1,001 years along with the Razor Whales.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Razorfish were evacuated to Spherus Magna.

Rock Lion species - Created by the Makuta.

Aggressive feline Rahi.
The Rock Lion species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Rock Lions were aggressive feline Rahi that lived in the Archives' lowest levels. They had sharp teeth and claws, and their mane became white-hot if they were angered.

History

Toa Lesovikk once tried to kill a wounded Rock Lion to put it out of its misery. However, the battle lasted for three days and the Rock Lion still won, from which Lesovikk learned that a wounded foe did not mean an easy fight, or that victory was guaranteed at all.

None were ever spotted on Mata Nui.
After the destruction of the Matoran Universe, many Rock Lions immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Rock Raptor species
Rock Raptor species - Created by the Makuta.

Cunning predatory Rahi.
The Rock Raptor species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Rock Raptors are among the more cunning and dangerous Rahi of Po-Metru. They prey upon larger animals, particularly Kikanalo, using a unique method. A Rock Raptor uses its self-made tools to dig out caves in the mountains of Po-Metru as living space they share with Spiny Stone Apes.
It can then use those same tools to weaken entire slopes and bring them down in a rain of stone on Kikanalo herds or wandering Kane-Ra. Stunned, the larger creatures are then easy prey for the Raptors. Rock Raptors could be found near the Sculpture Fields.

After the destruction of the Matoran Universe, many Rock Raptors immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Rockworm species - Created by the Makuta.

The rockworm species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Rockworms were small subterranean Rahi that were carnivorous and poisonous.

Many rockworms found their way to the island of Mata Nui, where they took up residence in Le-Wahi and Po-Wahi. Once, Pohatu defended Po-Koro from rockworms, using boulders to fight from a distance, ricocheting them off of the cliff walls and defeating dozens of the Rahi at once. Jaller and Takua once fell into a rockworm nest in Le-Wahi.

After the release of the Bohrok swarms, the rockworms of Mata Nui returned to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving rockworms left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

History

The Toa Metru once battled a giant mutated Rockworm during their fight with the Energized Protodermis Entity. The Entity used some of its substance to mutate a nearby Rockworm into a massive version of itself. Whenua managed to subdue it by using his Kanohi Ruru to blind it and force it underground.
Ruki fish species
Ruki fish species - Created by the Makuta.

The Ruki species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A school of Ruki fish would occasionally bite unsuspecting Matoran fingers that happen to stray into the water. They were known to be the natural enemies of Tarakava, and also had been known to drive the larger Rahi off. They often posed a problem for Ga-Matoran, as they chewed through nets, dams, etc. They were seen in the waters of both Metru Nui and Mata Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Ruki were evacuated onto Spherus Magna.
Sand Screamer Species- Created by the Makuta.

Sand Screamers are mysterious Rahi previously found on Voya Nui and the Southern Continent.

The Sand Screamer species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Sand Screamers were a mysterious species of Rahi found on Voya Nui, named for their screams in the night. There were no recorded sightings of the Sand Screamer by Matoran, and some were not even sure the creature was a Rahi. However, there was evidence such a Rahi existed. Most of the evidence came from the corpses of dead Rahi killed by a mysterious beast, with tracks sighted near them.
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Sand Screamers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Sand Snipe Species- Created by the Makuta.

The Sand Snipe species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Sand Snipes were mosquito-like biting insect Rahi that burrowed under armour to bite at muscle tissue. They lived in Po-Metru. They were created by the Makuta by combining various Viruses and Liquid protodermis. They were considered annoying pests. However, a way was quickly found to deal with them: Sand Snipes were so enthralled by liquid Protodermis that they marched directly to any puddle and often drowned. This odd behaviour lead to the expression "foolish as a sand snipe."

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Sand Snipes left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Sand Tarakava
Sand Tarakava Species- Created by the Makuta.

The Sand Tarakava species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

While normal Tarakava lived in Ga-Wahi and presumably Ga-Metru, Sand Tarakava lived in Po-Wahi and presumably Po-Metru. They hide beneath the sand to ambush prey passing by. They share their territory with large Rahi such as the Nui-Jaga.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Sand Tarakava migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Sand Tarakava left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

History

When Teridax took over Rahi with Infected Masks, Sand Tarakava were given infected yellow Rurus. They were the mortal enemy of the Kikanalo species.
Sea Spiders
Sea Spider Species- Created by the Makuta.

Amphibious predatory Rahi.

The Sea Spider species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A Sea Spider was a Rahi who was one of the few known predators of the Visorak. It used its front legs to shrink the target to a manageable size, and its Rhotuka throws the enemy into temporary stasis. Sea Spiders actively hated one another and always fought when they met. Interestingly, Sea Spiders were afraid of Krana.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Rahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Shallows Cat Species- Created by the Makuta.

Species of feline Rahi.

The Shallows Cat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

One of the strangest creatures found on Daxia, the Shallows Cat can prove to be a menace even to Order of Mata Nui members. It is commonly seen as a sleek, beautiful creature which resembles a Muaka which has just emerged from a surf and this sight often tempts many to pet it and befriend with it. Unfortunately, all those who do so would be dragged into the shallows, drowned and devoured by the Rahi.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Shallows Cats left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Shore Turtles
Shore Turtle / Hoi Turtle Species- Created by the Makuta.

Flying turtle-like Rahi.
The Shore Turtle species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Hoi, also known as Shore Turtles, were small turtles that used to live on the Metru Nui coastline, and later moved to Mata Nui. On Mata Nui, they lived in the inland swamps of Le-Wahi. The Rahi possessed the strange ability to fly. They were small and slow when walking, but could fly at high speeds. Hoi were harmless and protected by Toa Gali Nuva and the Ga-Matoran.

On Voya Nui, there was a small population of Hoi that lived of the beaches of the Cape of No Hope.
When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Shore Turtles of Mata Nui migrated back to Metru Nui. Shorty afterwards, although many survived the ascent, they may not have survived Voya Nui's return to its position on the Southern Continent.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Shore Turtles left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Silver Chute Spiders
Silver Chute Species- Created by the Makuta.

Dangerous arachnid Rahi.
The Silver Chute Spider species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Silver Chute Spiders are dangerous arachnid Rahi that preferred to hunt in Metru Nui's Chute System. They would trap their prey, often Gukko, in its light but strong webbing, which contained a paralyzing venom. This webbing was studied by Ga-Matoran researchers, who were hoping to learn how such a thin piece of webbing could stay so strong.

If the research had succeeded, Matoran could learn to create a lighter and stronger kind of cable than ever before. However, the Great Cataclysm put an end to that research. Silver Chute Spiders were not hunted by the Visorak, and many later migrated to the swamps of Le-Wahi on Mata Nui.

Following the Battle of Bara Magna and the collapse of the Great Spirit Robot, the remaining Silver Chute Spiders later left the Matoran Universe to live on Spherus Magna.
Spider Crabs
Spider Crab Species- Created by the Makuta.

Well-armoured marine Rahi.
The Spider Crab species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Spider Crabs are rahi creatures used by the Barraki as steeds. They are the only things that scare the Toa Terrain Crawler. They have 6 main articulated legs, 2 more pedipalp or leg like appendages, 2 tentacles, and a mouth surrounded by fangs. A Barraki can fit inside of one similar to that of the Toa Terrain Crawler, and its abdomen appears to be capable of storing Solidified Air Bubbles.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Spider Crabs within left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Spiny Stone Apes
Spiny Stone Ape Species- Created by the Makuta.

Large and territorial Rahi who dwell in rocky regions.

The Spiny Stone Ape species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Spiny Stone Apes were large ape- like Rahi native to Po-Metru and Po-Wahi.

Information

Known for their aggressiveness when their territory has been invaded combined with their tremendous strength make them very dangerous when agitated. They had a symbiotic relationship with Rock Raptors, living in abandoned caves and Raptor-carved tunnels while providing considerable defence for the Rock Raptors.

Appearance

These large Rahi were covered in a mottled brown and grey hide that helped it blend into its environment. Spiny Stone Ape had powerful arms and legs, and sharp claws that helped it to climb vertical surfaces rather quickly and helped it to cross slippery surfaces. It also had a long bladed tail that it used to balance itself while climbing and crossing slippery surfaces. Its hide was covered in spines which protected itself from attack and they could also defend themselves by curling up into a ball, exposing their foreclaws, bladed tail, and spiny hide. They usually make a guttural hissing to warn anyone that they might attack.

After the Great Cataclysm, some Spiny Stone Apes migrated to Po-Wahi on the island of Mata Nui, where they lived for 1,000 years. When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Spiny Stone Apes migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Spiny Stone Apes left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Spine Slug Species- Created by the Makuta.

Parasitic Rahi.
The Spine Slug species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Spine Slug was a parasitic creature that lived on a Skakdi's spines. They possessed the ability to feed off of a Skakdi's rage, although how they did this is unknown. Some theorise the Spine Slug was actually capable of influencing a Skakdi's anger to gain more nourishment, but no Skakdi would ever admit that such a thing was true.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Spine Slugs left the Matoran Universe with the Skakdi and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Stinger Whales
Stinger Whale Species- Created by the Makuta.

The Stinger Whale species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis as one of the Rahi that inhabit the Matoran Universe.

After the Great Cataclysm shattered the Pit and created an opening to the Black Waters, a population of Stinger Whales migrated to the waters of Aqua Magna.

Stinger Whales were a species of Rahi that live in the ocean around Voya Nui and in Mahri Nui. They were also used as mounts by the Mahri Nui Matoran. One was armed and used as a vehicle by the Toa Mahri. It is unknown whether or not if the species has migrated to Spherus Magna.
Stone Rat Species- Created by the Makuta.

Vicious Rahi rodents.

The Stone Rat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Stone Rats were small rat Rahi that lived underground in most of Metru Nui's districts. They had powerful teeth that could chew through almost anything. Ta-Metru was once hit by a plague of them, after they had been driven from their nests by swarms of Nui-Rama. The Toa Metru crossed paths with some of these Rahi whilst searching for Krahka.

Following the Great Cataclysm, a large number of Stone Rats migrated to the island of Mata Nui, along with the Matoran. The creatures began to make their homes in caves and other similar areas, where they lived for 1,000 years. During his adventures, Takua was once trapped in one of these caves, and his friend Jaller had to rescue him.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Stone Rats migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Stone Rats left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Swamp Stalkers
Swamp Stalker Species- Created by the Makuta.

Reptilian Rahi.

The Swamp Stalker species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Swamp Stalker was a monstrous reptilian Rahi species that dwelled in the Swamp of Secrets surrounding Karda Nui. Upon being exposed to the waters of the swamp, the majority of the species were mutated into several armored colossi. Their jaws were 'powerful enough to snap a Razor Whale in half with one bite.' An average member of the species would spend most of its time beneath the murky waters or laying on muddy islets, waiting for prey. The majority of the species were killed by the Energy Storm.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Swamp Stalkers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Subterranean Worms - Created by the Makuta.

The Subterranean Worm species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Subterranean Worm was a blind worm that was believed to eat raw Protodermis. These creatures lived in the tunnels in Onu-Wahi on Mata Nui. Turaga Whenua and Onua encountered one on Mata Nui, and defeated it using sound.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Subterranean Worms migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Subterranean Worms left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

The Tahtorak
Tahtorak Species - Created by Makuta Miserix.

The Tahtorak species was created by Makuta Miserix using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Tahtorak were massive, 40-foot-tall, bipedal dinosaur-like Rahi with the ability to speak Matoran. They were native to both the island of Keetongu's species and to Zakaz. Tahtorak were used as steeds for Keetongu's species, and also for the Skakdi - although many turned on their riders.

An Order of Mata Nui member was told by a dying Tahtorak that its kind have had enough of the Skakdi's warring and destroying of Zakaz, and plan to wipe them out. They never got the chance due to the Skakdi's participation in the war between the Order of Mata Nui and the Brotherhood of Makuta.

The Tahtorak of Metru Nui

A Tahtorak was dropped onto Metru Nui by Brutaka via his Kanohi Olmak for fun some time in the past. It went on a rampage in Ga-Metru before being brought down and locked in the Archives. Through unknown circumstances it somehow became buried deep in the Fikou Web, where it lay asleep until it was accidentally awakened by a number of Lava Eels the Toa Metru agitated during their conflict with Krahka. Later, it tore its way to the surface of Ta-Metru where it proceeded to lay waste to the city, all the while asking for an "answer" to a question no one could understand, although Rahaga Pouks theorised that it asked how it came to Metru Nui, so far away from its home.

The Toa Metru defeated Tahtorak by weakening the ground until it fell through. Much later, that same Tahtorak reappeared when the Visorak overtook the city. Krahka managed to get the Tahtorak to ally itself with her, the Toa Hordika, and the Rahaga. It fought a brave battle against the Zivon, which resulted in Krahka, Zivon, and the Tahtorak to be thrown into the Zone of Darkness. A pocket dimension which can be accessed via a Kahgarak's Rhotuka power.

1,001 years later, he and Krahka traveled throughout the Field of Shadows again, only to find themselves exiting through a vortex created by Brutaka inside the Piraka Stronghold. Krahka shapeshifted into a flying Rahi and flew away from Voya Nui, but the Tahtorak remained behind.

After the Toa Inika retrieved the Kanohi Ignika and Vezon and the Kardas Dragon were separated, Tahtorak ran into Kardas and they began to battle one another. In the end, Tahtorak won. Annoyed, Kardas fled the island towards Mata Nui. Axonn knew Tahtorak would be a threat to all who lived on Voya Nui, so he summoned Botar to transport Tahtorak elsewhere. For fun, Botar teleported him into the very center of Xia. He went on a rampage in the city there, fighting the Kanohi Dragon until the Toa Hagah met both of them. The Tahtorak was brought down by Bomonga using his Mask of Growth. Pouks then used Stone bonds to contain the Rahi.

After the destruction of the Matoran Universe Robot, the Tahtorak moved onto Spherus Magna, where they began their new lives in a new environment.
Takea species - Created by the Makuta.

The Takea were a species of fierce shark-like predator Rahi. Takea were created by the Makuta species by combining various Viruses with liquid protodermis.

Takea sharks were used by Pridak as his army. Takea in the Matoran language meant "King of Sharks". They hated the Tarakava and attacked Matoran ships for fun. The Ga-Matoran Hahli once tracked down and chased a Takea in order to learn about speed, at the suggestion of Kai.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Takea migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Takea were evacuated onto Spherus Magna.
Takea sharks
Taku Species
Taku species - Created by the Makuta.

The Taku species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Taku were a species of very small bird-like Rahi on Mata Nui and Metru Nui. They were aquatic and could dive to great depths to catch fish. Shortly after he washed up on Mata Nui, Toa Lewa used his Air powers to save a baby chick of this species from falling to its death; ironically, the Toa of Air was the reason the chick fell out of its nest in the first place.

Later, during the Bohrok War, the Gahlok swarms forced many Taku living on the coast to migrate closer to the beaches, where many fell prey to Takea sharks. Following the rediscovery of Metru Nui, many Taku migrated along with the Matoran to the city.

After the death of Makuta, the Taku race fled from the Matoran Universe onto Spherus Magna.
Tarakava species
Tarakava species - Created by the Makuta.

The Tarakava species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Tarakava were huge lizard-like Rahi who used their long forelegs to deliver stunning blows. They hunted in pairs and stayed in shallow waters, as predators they lived in deep water.

The residents of Ga-Koro were trapped in an underwater hut due to a recent attack by a Tarakava controlled by an infected mask. When Takua rescued the villagers, Gali came to the rescue and defeated the Tarakava, removing its infected mask and taming it.

The Tarakava did their best to avoid the Bohrok, and later retreated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva released the Bohrok to do their job.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Tarakava left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Tarakava Nui species
Tarakava Nui - Created by Makuta Teridax and the Energised Protodermis Entity.

Tarakava Nui, also known as the "King of Lizards," was one of the last creatures made by Teridax and the Energised Protodermis Entity. It stopped early attempts at building the Mata Nui village of Ga-Koro until Turaga Nokama and the Ga-Matoran drove it off.
It is presumed that the Tarakava Nui evacuated the Matoran Universe and is currently living on Spherus Magna.
Living Mountain
The Living Mountain - Created by Makuta Mutran

The Mountain was once a small, sentient rock created by Makuta Mutran to maintain as a pet project. During a visit to Xia he accidentally left it behind, and over time it grew larger and larger by eating Xians until it reached its current size.

History

The Mountain was formed when Makuta Mutran accidentally left his "favorite sentient rock" on Xia while on a diplomatic mission. He figured it wouldn't cause any trouble, but the rock started eating Xians and grew into a mountain.

The Vortixx were expected to climb up the mountain at least once in their lifetime, usually in pairs or groups, to establish their own bravery and ruthlessness. A Vortixx would be especially admired if they returned alone, as they showed how treacherous they could be. One such Vortixx was Roodaka, who left her male companion to die during their rite of passage.

Xia, the homeland of the Vortixx, was an extremely polluted island. However, there was a rumor that the only untainted area of land was the peak of the Mountain. A group of Vortixx set out to prove this, but never returned. They are believed to have been eaten.

The Brotherhood of Makuta once tried to ship some of the rock from the mountain to barricade their own island, but it proved to be a failure after the rock ate the Visorak the Brotherhood sent.

Several large chunks were torn out of the mountain when the Tahtorak and the Kanohi Dragon were fighting. When the Great Spirit Robot was damaged and the Vortixx left Xia, the Mountain was left behind and due to heat and light, it perished.

Tools and abilities

The Mountain had the power to devour climbers who climbed up its slope suddenly and without warning, which made climbing up the mountain a dangerous task. It could also mold its shape to a certain degree. It would apparently grow when it ate.

After the Great Spirit Robot was severely damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Vortixx and other inhabitants of the Matoran Universe emigrated to Spherus Magna. The Mountain was trapped in a failing universe without a source of heat or light and consequently perished.
Toa Terrian Crawler; recreated and modified by the Order of Mata Nui
Venom Flyers
Waikiru Species
Metru Mantis
Toa Terrain Crawler - Created by the Makuta, later recreated by the Order of Mata Nui.

The Toa Terrain Crawler once belonged to a species of Rahi that was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Toa Terrain Crawler was an aquatic Rahi and living vehicle that the Toa Mahri used to return to the Pit after they had escorted the Matoran of Mahri Nui back to Voya Nui. Axonn gave it to them after modifying it; Hahli was slightly disturbed by the alteration of the Rahi. The Toa Mahri used the crawler to fight the Barraki and their sea creature servants. The crawler also had the ability to repair their weapons and armour.

The Terrain Crawler was recreated by the Order of Mata Nui with the insides of armoury rooms and other mechanics as a living vehicle creature. As well as a means of aiding Toa warriors on their missions.
Troller Species - Created by the Makuta.

Large, wormlike Rahi.
The Troller species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

History

A Troller's mouth was said to be large enough to swallow an entire block of a Metru. They were one of the most dangerous Rahi in Po-Metru.

One of them was encountered by Toa Metru Onewa, Nuju, Whenua and Turaga Lhikan when they broke out of their cell inside the Dark Hunter Prison. Onewa then used his Kanohi Komau to control the Rahi's mind and have it take them safely through the Metru inside of its mouth. Some time later, a Rahi called Krahka briefly shapeshifted into a Troller during her battle with Roodaka.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Trollers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Tunnel Stalker Species
Tunnel Stalker Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Tunnel Stalker species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

The Tunnel Stalker was an enormous desert scorpion Rahi which burrows below the ground and bursts through to the surface to trap its prey in its powerful claws or tail pincer.

Following the Great Cataclysm, some Tunnel Stalkers found their way to Po-Wahi on Mata Nui, where they lived for 1,000 years.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Tunnel Stalkers migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Tunnel Stalkers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Tunneller Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Tunneller species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Tunnellers were large lizard-like Rahi that ate any inorganic protodermis they came across. They also had the ability to absorb any power used on them, for example, becoming a creature of fire when exposed to fire. This can also be a weakness as evident in Bionicle Adventures #2: Trail by Fire. Where if it is exposed by something like glass it can be stopped.

Toa Metru Vakama and Onewa encountered a very large Tunneller during their search for Po-Metru's Great Disk. They defeated it by turning it into glass.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Tunnelers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Ussal Crabs
Ussal Crab Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Ussal species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Ussal Crabs were a species of crab Rahi. They could be tamed and used for battle, transportation, mining, and sport. These crabs were most notably used by Onu-Koro, usually in the Ussalry, and in Le-Metru where they were used by Le-Matoran drivers to haul cargo or passengers. Mining crabs in Onu-Wahi were sometimes seen with saws for pincers.
There was once a giant Ussal that attacked Toa Metru Nuju and Whenua when they searched for the Great Disks. The most well-known Ussal was Takua's faithful pet named Pewku. Rock Ussal were a variant breed of Ussal on Voya Nui that had pincers. At a later point in their lives, Ussal crabs would evolve to a larger, stronger form.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Ussal left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Rock Ussal Crabs
Rock Ussal Species - Created by the Makuta.

Rock Ussal are specialized Ussal crabs, considerably more aggressive than the average Ussal.

Rock Ussal are native to the Southern Continent. When the Great Cataclysm tore Voya Nui out of the continent and up to the surface of to Aqua Magna, many Rock Ussal survived the journey and adapted to life on the barren island. They could be found scattered all across Voya Nui, but especially in the Desert of Sorrows.

When the Toa Mahri destroyed the Cord and returned Voya Nui to its former position on the Southern Continent, the Rock Ussal may not have survived the descent.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Rock Ussal left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Vahki Hunter Species
Vahki Hunter Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Vahki Hunter species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Vahki Hunters were tall, sapient Rahi. These beasts possessed sharp teeth, claws, and a pair of wings on their shoulders. They were named for the fact that they mostly prey on Vakhi.

The Vahki Hunters originally lived in Po-Metru and Ta-Metru, but with the spread of the Morbuzakh, Vahki patrols were increased, which caused the Rahi to spread. They mainly hid underground to capture and devour the Vahki. When the Great Cataclysm occurred, a group of them escaped the Archives, but only one or two were recaptured.

Vahki Hunters hunt by waiting for a squad of Vahki to arrive, grab one in the rear, and take it underground. It later tosses back the parts it didn't like. They don't always eat Vahki; they also eat other machinery.

No Vahki Hunters were ever spotted on the island of Mata Nui, as there was not sufficient machinery present there to incite a migration following the Great Cataclysm.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Vahki Hunters left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Vako Species
Vako Species - Created by the Makuta.

Horned Rahi beasts capable of great speed.

The Vako species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Vako were great horned, rhinoceros-like Rahi that roamed the plains of Ta-Wahi and the drifts of Ko-Wahi. They were known for being capable of reaching great speeds while charging, making them formidable threats to any being foolish enough to anger one.

History

Like all other Rahi, the Vako were created by the Brotherhood of Makuta using a combination of Viruses and Energized Protodermis. It is unknown whether other continents of the Matoran Universe had Vako inhabiting them, but Metru Nui was known to be home to a good number of Vako. After the Great Spirit collapsed, Metru Nui was devastated. Due to the Vahki having sealed all of the Matoran population in spheres, the invading hordes of the Visorak were able to occupy the abandoned city without opposition. The Vako, however, were for the most part able to evade capture, and migrated to the island paradise of Mata Nui.
During the following millennium spent on the island, some brave Po-Matoran attempted to tame the imposing rhinoceros-like Rahi, but all such attempts ended in utter failure. After the Bohrok swarms were unleashed to "clean" the island, the Vako herds escaped Ta- and Ko-Wahi to return to the now-rebuilt and repopulated Metru Nui.

In the aftermath of the Battle of Bara Magna, the entire Matoran Universe inside Makuta's stolen body was rendered uninhabitable; the Vako herds inhabiting the Matoran Universe were among the many Rahi that escaped the robot onto the surface of the newly-reformed Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Different breeds of Vako were seen in both Ta-Wahi and Ko-Wahi, each adapted to their respective climates. However, all were known to be extremely dangerous to Matoran and Rahi alike due to their tendency to charge at high speeds; they were so formidable that even Makuta's infected Rahi tended to avoid roaming Vako.

Venom Flyer Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Venom Flyer species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Venom Flyers were flying Rahi that travelled with the Visorak. It specialised in catching flying Rahi using their Rhotuka spinners which could prevent the target from flying naturally or mechanically. It has a second Rhotuka that is under its shell that spins, forcing it up into the air. It could grind any solid object on Metru Nui.

History

After the Visorak horde was conquered by the Brotherhood of Makuta, Venom Flyers were chosen to travel with Visorak squads to neutralise flying targets. They were also used to deliver messages between the Dark Hunters and Brotherhood.

When the Visorak horde was eliminated by the volcanic eruption on Artidax, the Venom Flyers dispersed. However, Makuta Teridax soon took control of the Matoran Universe and recreated the Visorak, and the Venom Flyers rejoined the horde.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Venom Flyers left the Matoran Universe with packs of Visorak and immigrated to Spherus Magna.
Waikiru Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Waikiru species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Waikiru were a type of walrus-like Rahi which dwelled on the shores of Ga-Metru and Ga-Wahi. While quick in the water, they were clumsy on land.

A storm created by Toa Mata Gali accidentally displaced several Waikiru. Feeling responsible, she then placed these Waikiru under her care.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok on the island, the Waikiru migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Waikiru left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Water Wraith Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Water Wraith species was created by Makuta Teridax using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Water Wraiths were a type of small, aquatic, fish-like Rahi with poison covering their outer shells.
Makuta Teridax once used the Water Wraith as a metaphor for the other Brotherhood of Makuta members, some 80,000 years before the invasion of Karda Nui.
A Water Wraith would often allow itself to be eaten by larger Rahi as an aggressive tactic. The Wraith's deadly poison would kill the larger creature from the inside and the Water Wraith could then feed until a larger being ate the corpse.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Water Wraiths were evacuated to Spherus Magna.
Metru Mantis Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Metru Mantis species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Metru Mantis are mantis Rahi that are generally tame, but feed on other insectoids, such as the Visorak. They are generally six to eight feet tall and nocturnal. Metru Mantis have sedative venom. The Rahaga have been keeping them safe in the Archives, planning to unleash them as a strike force against the Visorak. However, before they could be unleashed, Vakama disbanded the horde.

Following the destruction of the Matoran Universe, the Metru Mantises fled the robot and thrived on Spherus Magna.
Moa Species - Created by the Makuta.

The Moa species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

Moa are bird-like Rahi found in Po-Wahi. Some were tamed by the Po-Matoran and were used as a method of transportation.

History

When the Great Cataclysm struck, a population of Moa migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui and established themselves to the Po-Wahi region, where they lived for 1,000 years. Some were tamed by the Po-Matoran and were used as a method of transportation.

Takua rescued a Po-Matoran's tamed Moa from a rock fall during his quest to recover the Toa Stones.
He also encountered wild Moa, which would try to attack if he stayed in one area for too long.

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Moa migrated back to Metru Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Moa left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Protocairns - Created by the Makuta.

Surely one of the most bizarre creatures ever seen on Metru Nui, perhaps only their rumoured origin is stranger than their behaviour. According to legend, a small group of Matoran from another land were willingly exposed to Energised Protodermis. They were transformed into monstrous amphibious beasts. Every hundred years or so since then, Protocairns appear on the various islands and wreak enormous destruction, actually disintegrating large portions of the coastline. After a short time of this, the Protocairns die and their bodies fuse together, forming new land in place of the old they destroyed.
In reality, they were ordinary and destructive beasts mistakenly created by the Makuta. As well as their only failed attempt in creating violent Rahi. As well as their last ever Rahi they ever made; amongst all gentler breeds. While they live, however, they are extremely difficult to stop, although Vahki squads have had success driving them away over the past few centuries.

Over 7,000 years ago, a Protocairn invasion was dealt with by the Toa team of Norik and Varian, who also dealt with the following Parakrekks.

Rebirth of the Great Temple

At one point, the Protocairns arrived on the shores of Ga-Metru and began terrorising it. They succeeded in destroying much, including the Great Temple. Eventually, the creatures died and merged into a new landmass. The Great Temple was later rebuilt on the Protocairn-created land.
Protocairns
rahi created by the hand of artakha
Energy Hound Species - Created by the Hand of Artakha.

The Energy Hounds were created by the Hand of Artakha to assist them, and were some of the first Rahi in existence.

Energy Hounds were canine Rahi that could track anything or anyone by sensing its unique energy signature. The Order of Mata Nui apparently tamed several of these and gave them to the robotic Maxilos, guardians, and other guards in the Pit. Spinax was a notable Energy Hound that belonged to the Maxilos that Makuta Teridax took over in Mahri Nui.

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Energy Hounds emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

-
Sonic Creature/Entity - These serpents had the ability to turn into light rays when exposed to sunlight. The Toa Metru encountered this beast while saving the Matoran from Teridax's Matoran Pods. Matau got rid of it by first ordering Nuju and Whenua to put up airtight walls, then draining the area of all air and throwing a rock at it, causing it to dissolve.

Crystal Climbers - Created by Artakha
Crystal Serpents were creatures created by Artakha which turned out to be a complete failure.
Only four Crystal Serpents were ever created and they were later freed onto the island, spreading out individually into the north, south, east and west parts of the island Artakha. Though Matoran were not their preferred food, Matoran disliked being near these creatures. When Makuta Kojol led an army of Rahkshi and Visorak to Artakha, the Crystal Serpents attacked and decimated the Visorak forces.

Abilities

These serpents had the ability to turn into light rays when exposed to sunlight.

The Vatuka
The Vatuka was an elemental rock creature that lived mostly in Onu-Wahi, but seen in Ta-Wahi in a different colour (a red Vatuka with green eyes). It is also believed that the Vatuka were created by Energized Protodermis in the Maze of Shadows.

Some Vatuka found their way to Mata Nui. There they mostly resided in Onu-Wahi, but some also lived in Ta-Wahi. Vatuka interacted so infrequently with Matoran that the Matoran questioned if Vatuka even existed. Near the end of the Great War, a Vatuka captured Turaga Whenua. The Vatuka was defeated and Whenua rescued by Takua.

The Vatuka on Mata Nui later returned to the Matoran Universe following the Matoran's and Rahi's return after the defeat of Teridax.

After the destruction of the Matoran Universe, many Vatuka immigrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and traits

Vatuka appear to be made entirely of rock. They are slightly wider and twice the height of a diminished Matoran of Mata Nui. They are humanoid from the waist up and a pile of stones from the waist down. Though Vatuka are normally grey with red eyes, a red variation with green eyes once lived in Ta-Wahi.

Vatuka are capable of creating blasts of Stone.

The Vatuka
Starfish
Starfish were organic Rahi. They have only been seen on the island of Mata Nui, and it is unknown if they have survived the destruction of Mata Nui.
